Mitchell (1829-1914) was the leading American neurologist of his time and performed over 350 experiments upon the cerebellum. He emphasized its co-ordinating function, first postulated by Flourens, and he proposed his 'augumentor' theory of cerebellar gunction. (G&M 1404).
