Japanischsprachige Ausgabe. 39 Seiten mit zum Teil doppelseitigen Holzschnitten in Schwarz und Weiß. Osui Asai, über den heute wenig bekannt ist, dessen eindrucksvolles Werk allerdings keinen Zweifel an seiner Fertigkeit lässt, schuf drei Malereihandbücher. Zunächst erschien 1879 das Kacho Gafu, das Buch der Blumen- und Vogelmalerei, danach das vorliegende Sansui Gafu, das Buch über Landschaftsmalerei, und schließlich 1880 das Shikunshi Gafu, das Buch der Vier Edelmänner, die von Orchidee, Bambus, Chrysantheme und Pflaume repräsentiert werden. Thematisch als auch motivisch ist die Verwandschaft mit traditionellen chinesischen Musterbüchern der Tuschemalerei, wie beispielsweise dem Malereihandbuch des Senfkorngartens, unverkennbar. Broschur berieben und knickspurig, erstes Blatt der Titelei fehlend, Seiten nur leicht gebräunt und vereinzelt blass stockfleckig. Gutes Exemplar mit schön erhaltenen Holzschnitten. Osui Asai, about whom little is known today, but whose impressive work leaves no doubt about his skill, created three painting manuals. First, in 1879, "Kacho Gafu," the book of flower and bird painting, followed by the work at hand, "Sansui Gafu," the book on landscape painting, and finally, in 1880, "Shikunshi Gafu," the book of the Four Gentlemen, represented by orchid, bamboo, chrysanthemum, and plum. Thematically and artistically, the resemblance to traditional Chinese pattern books of ink painting, such as the Manual of the Mustard Seed Garden, is unmistakable. Paperback rubbed and creased, the first leaf of the title missing, pages only lightly darkened and sporadically with faint foxing. Good copy with well-preserved woodcuts.
