Prima edizione (First Edition). . Quanshen presenta una selezione di ritratti a figura intera realizzati negli studi fotografici cinesi tra il 1930 e il 1980. Il genere del ritratto a figura intera, in cui il soggetto è ripreso dalla testa ai piedi in posizione frontale con alle spalle un particolare sfondo, è tanto antico quanto la ritrattistica. Ma nel caso cinese, al fine di ridurre i costi di questo tipo di ritratto, gli studi fotografici offrivano un formato verticale inedito, in cui la cornice "restringeva" il soggetto dritto in piedi con le braccia lungo il corpo. Il risultato era una stampa ai sali d'argento, una sorta di piccola bara fotografica, con una dimensione media di 7 cm di altezza per 2,5 cm di larghezza, sia in bianco e nero che colorata a mano. Questa fortuita raccolta di 60 ritratti anonimi rivela - attraverso i codici di abbigliamento e le abitudini comportamentali raffigurate - frammenti della storia e dell'ideologia della società cinese. Il libro è stato selezionato tra i migliori fotolibri del Photo-Eye Best Photobooks per il 2013. Book.

In 2015, French artist Thomas Sauvin acquired an album produced in the early 1980s… by an unknown Shanghai University photography student. The album comprises original negatives, silver prints, manuscript comments from an anonymous professor, and shows the student's diligence in mastering the rules applying to the conventional portrait. This volume was given a second life through the expert hands of Kensuke Koike, a Japanese artist based in Venice whose practice combines collage and found photography. The series, ?No More, No Less?, born from the encounter between Koike and Sauvin, includes new silver prints made from the album's original negatives. These prints were then submitted to Koike's sharp imagination, who, with a simple blade and adhesive tape, deconstructs and reinvents the images. However, these purely manual interventions all respect one single formal rule: nothing is removed, nothing is added, ?No More, No Less? In such a context that blends freedom and constraint, Koike and Sauvin meticulously explore the possibilities of an image only made up of itself.Nel 2015, l'artista francese Thomas Sauvin ha acquisito un album prodotto nei primi anni '80 da uno sconosciuto studente di fotografia dell'Università di Shanghai. Nel 2014 uno di loro era al mercato Baoguosi di Pechino. Aveva scoperto "uno strano album". Una volta che Sauvin ebbe tra le mani l'oggetto, capì subito che stava guardando un insolito ed elaborato kit da cucito di un couturier, un'opera interamente realizzata a mano, un labirinto di carta ripiegata in cui fili, aghi e modelli ritagliati dai giornali erano intrecciati l'uno con l'altro. Contemplando questo oggetto, vedeva qualcosa di più del mero armamentario necessario alle casalinghe nella Cina degli anni '60: ritrovava una magia simile a quella degli armadietti delle curiosità rinascimentali e degli armadietti medici cinesi, composti da più cassetti che nascondevano segreti di ogni tipo . È così che ha sviluppato l'idea di riempire questo oggetto bizzarro con fedeli facsimili di stampe vintage, appartenenti alla collezione acquisita in tutta la Cina per diversi anni.
