Softcover. Zustand: As New. First Paperback Edition. Fine-looking, structurally sound softcover, little discernible wear to the glossy wrappers, bright interior, unmarked. From the publisher's blurb, "The Islamic finance industry is worth about $800bn globally and is growing at an annual rate of 10 to 15 per cent. The sector's d…ramatic growth since 2000, when it was worth $150bn, and profusion of investment products has been fuelled by an increasing desire by Muslims for investments that comply with Islamic law. Demand has also been triggered by the big increase in wealth in the Gulf, where growth has doubled since 2002 on the back of the soaring oil price." - Financial Times, May 30, 2008 ** Islamic banking has grown rapidly over the past decade and continues to grow, while many conventional banks and financial institutions write off billions of bad debt. In 30 years, Islamic banking has developed from local provision to providers of established international financial products. This book explains the principles of Islamic banking and finance. It also provides a guide to Islamic finance products - such as istisna'a, murabaha, musharaka, mudaraba, ijara, sukuk, and salam - so that the reader can understand the key concepts and main vocabulary of Islamic finance. Additionally, the book discusses the application of Islamic products to a variety of financial contexts - e.g. asset management, treasury, risk management, raising finance, tax. Islamic Banking and Finance also provides guidance on the regulatory frameworks for Islamic finance - the role of the Sharia'a Board, UK regulation, and international financial standards." xiii, 1-203 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.

Hardback. Zustand: New. Over the years, large numbers of academics and practitioners have looked into the valuation of companies and the different techniques that can be applied. Discounted cash flow, residual income, and economic value added are only a few of the techniques that have been researched extensively. Typically, thes…e valuations cover either a specific industry, or a large diverse set of listed companies, but, without exception, exclude financial institutions. The reasons for this exclusion are simply that their characteristics are different from other industries and the fact that financial institutions, specifically banks, are notoriously difficult to value. But are they really that difficult to value and if so, why? As a result of the global growth of the Islamic banking industry, it becomes increasingly important to be able to determine the value of Islamic banks and compare their ability to create value with other banks in the industry. For Islamic banks, the estimation of parameters differs, amongst other reasons, due to the different balance sheet structure and the lack of availability of market data. The main question this book addresses is whether it is possible to determine the value of banks in general and Islamic banks in particular using generally available valuation models. But does this still hold in the current uncertain times? Questions that are addressed include the suitability of price as the right benchmark, the impact of market psychology, and the accuracy of future cash flow estimations.
