During the Korean War, a group of American soldiers capture an enemy pilot, and orders are to execute the prisoner. Sgt. P.J. Briscoe (Douglas) orders his men to kill the prisoner, but their reluctance forms a wedge in their allegiance. Shot on location in the Catalina Harbor. Goldenrod titled wrappers, noted as COMPLETE on the front wrapper, rubber-stamped copy No. 63, dated May 1, 1962, with a credit for screenwriter Denker. Title page integral with front wrapper. 165 leaves, with last page of text numbered "133-137," followed by 24 leaves bound upside down. Mimeograph duplication, with white, pink, yellow, gray, green, and blue revision pages throughout, dated variously between 4/19/62 and 5/11/62. Bis zur Komposition des 'Elias', der die Geschichte des biblischen Propheten aus dem 1. Buch der Könige zum Thema hat, sollte jedoch noch ein ganzes Jahr…zehnt verstreichen. Als ihn das Angebot erreichte, für das Musikfestival in Birmingham ein größeres Werk zu schreiben, begann Mendelssohn schließlich mit der Arbeit am Oratorium. Dort wurde der 'Elias' 1846 mit großem Erfolg uraufgeführt und erfreut sich seitdem ungebrochener Beliebtheit.Im Anschluss an die Uraufführung unterzog Mendelssohn das Oratorium einer Überarbeitung, bei der ganze Nummern entfielen und neue hinzukamen. In dieser Fassung, in der das Werk auch heute gespielt wird, erklang der 'Elias' erstmals 1847 in London. Die deutsche Erstaufführung fand erst nach dem Tode des Komponisten 1847 in Leipzig unter der Leitung von Niels Wilhelm Gade statt.Rechtzeitig zum Mendelssohn-Jahr 2009 legt der Mendelssohn-Spezialist Douglass Seaton, Professor an der Florida State University, eine kritische Neuausgabe des Oratoriums vor. Die Ausgabe spiegelt den neuesten Stand der Forschung wider und bietet sowohl die englische als auch die deutsche Textfassung des Werkes.
