Offered is a collection of 13 Thermal (Received) Faxes from Paul Hockney, David Hockney's brother and accountant, dated February 6, 1989 (from "Old Bath House - Shipley" - Hockney and Yorke Chartered Accountants in Shipley, City of Bradford, County of West Yorkshire, England) to t…he David Hockney business office on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood. Each thermal fax measures 8-1/2" by 10-3/4" and include pages 3-8 and 10-16 of an original 16-page fax (since they were found with the original paper clip holding the collection together, it is presumed that the first missing page was the cover sheet and the other two missing pages - pages 2 and 9 - were either redundant, blank, or pulled for retention). All of the pages relate to the then on-going project of Haplomatics by composer James Sellars (1940-2017) with artwork by David Hockney (although drawings were made, and four numbers of music were released, it is unclear if the intended 30-minute music video with accompanying booklet with text by James Sellars and artwork by David Hockney was ever completed or, if completed, published). The faxes are as follows: Page 3 - cover letter to Paul Hockney from Denis Bieber, Partner and Executive Officer of Rebo High Definition Studio (who is providing faxed material about Haplomatics and who begins his letter, "Dear Mr. Hockney: Yesterday's telephone call from you really disturbed me. Both James Sellars and I have had meetings with David to discuss Haplomatics"); Page 4 - "HAPLOMATICS" (which begins, "James Sellars HAPLOMATICS by David Hockney is a 30-minute music-video of a techno-fantasy with narration, electronic music and high definition graphics"); Page 5 - "JAMES SELLARS - HAPLOMATICS - By DAVID HOCKNEY - WHAT IS IT?"; Page 6 - "HAPLOMATICS about HAPLOMATICS"; Page 7 - "Haplomatics: Possible (probable) Reviews"; Pages 8 and 10 - "HAPLOMATICS" (page 10 duplicates page 8; in a stream-of-consciousness style, reading in very short part: "Haplomatics is - a pother of imitation reality - life without science - art without gravity - a subtle destructuring of virtually every idea that has Western culture deadlocked"); Page 11 - "HAPLOMATICS - WHAT IS IT?"; Pages 12-14 - "THE HAPLOMATICS COMPANY" (containing "Minutes of Meeting held at 530 West 25th Street, New York, New York, on Tuesday, December 6th, 1988" attended by James Sellars, Finn Byhard, Denis Bieber, and Tina Sharkey); Pages 15-16 - "HAPLOMATICS MEETING, DECEMBER 1, 1988" (containing the minutes of that meeting with James Sellars, Finn Byhard, Denis Bieber, Tina Sharkey, and Abby Levine).
