In a tribute to Simon, former President Bill Clinton said he was "beyond question, one of the most remarkable public servants I ever knew." Fifty-Two Simple Ways to Make a Difference was published posthumously, resulting in a copy signed by Simon's wife. Adlai Stevenson III (1930-2021) was a Democratic politician who represented Illinois in the Senate from 1970 to 1981. Stevenson's father, Adlai Stevenson II, was influenced by Simon's early writings for the Troy Tribune to stand against gambling and government corruption in Illinois.
