Leather. Zustand: Good. Full calf (leather), four raised bands. 592 pages, plus the table at rear. (7 x 4.75 inches). Carefully revised, corrected, and much enlarged, with an exact table wherein are contained all the principal matters in the whole book. This copy SIGNED five times on the front paste down and front free endpaper by JOHN SULLIVAN. Two signatures in block printing, two signatures in cursive script, one inscription reading, "John Sullivan his book 1765." This matches the name and approximate age of General John Sullivan (1740-1795), American Revolutionary War General, delegate to Continental Congress, and Governor of New Hampshire. The date corresponds to Sullivan's early adulthood, when he was studying law and beginning his public life. Thought the inscription is more casual than his known later signatures, the match in name, date and historical plausibility supports the potential attribution, requiring further analysis for authentication. Book shows general overall exterior wear and rubbing, bumped corners. Internally expected age toning to paper, last two leafs torn with 3/4 of the page lost. A SCARCE book belonging to a John Sullivan, possibly the Gen. Sullivan. Size: Octavo. Signed by Author(s).
