Simpson was the chairman and president of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Company. Mr. Simpson began his railroad career at the age of 15 when he took a $20-a-month job as an office boy in the passenger department of the Central Railroad of New Jersey. He joined the B.&O. in 1931 as assistant general passenger agent and rose through the ranks to become, in 1953, one of the few railroad presidents to come from the passenger side of the business.
