Photographic frontispiece of the then Prince of Wales (later Edward VIII) with "a rhinoceros shot in Nepal" (the image is repeated on the upper panel of the jacket) plus a sketch map and 21 photographic plates - all but one two to a page, the full page plate being a portrait of His Highness Maharaja Sir Chandra Sham Sher Jang "Late Prime Minister of Nepal". Jacket edge worn with losses and with the shadow of old tape repairs which have now been removed, spotting to the edges of the text block, the book otherwise very good. Serving in India and Kashmir in the 1890s, O'Connor was subsequently a member of Younghusband's mission to Tibet in 1903-4, in which he acted as interpreter and intelligence officer and was later posted to Persia (Iran) where he was arrested and held for many months by the Persian army. In 1918 he was sent to Siberia before spending his last years in Sikkim and Nepal.
