First and possibly the only edition published in 1918, dealing with the author s experience in various part of the Indian jungles with several chapters on hunting tigers and panthers as well as man eaters. Illustrated with three black and white plates by W.A. Bowring Esqr. 7x5 in…ches , 154 pages, hardcover spine creased, overall a nice tight copy, a small neat inscription dated 4th March 1920 on the top of front blank page, and a print out of Col. Sleeman s biography is laid in, as well as a photocopy of his brief inscription and signature is enclosed. A scarce volume from a personal collection dating back to at least 40 years, stored in a smoke free climate controlled building. Light shelfware as expected from a 100+ year old book. Decorated boards with a leaping tiger, no dustjacket was issued.

Welllington N.Z. 14th February 1919 " - no other inscriptions or marks, binding firm with inner hinges intact, plates in good condition ; original paper covered boards with illustration and title on the front board and with a replacement spine in the style of book (please see photos) ; corners and edges rubbed, back is somewhat toned and soiled with patchiness of colour, replacement spine is complete with clear title and, again, some patchiness/staining , the front is toned and soiled but the title and image remain complete and distinct. No dustwrapper. ". The endeavour [ie, the writing of this book ] has been to represent the game of the Indian jungles in its true and not fictitious aspect. Too often the readers of big-game shooting books are led to believe that almost every specie of wild animal if ferocious, carnivorous and the aggressive enemy of mankind, some of the most harmless being represented as truly bloodthirsty monsters. Although such distortion of fact considerably increases the sportman's reputation. every effort has been made to eliminate everything of this sort from the accompanying sketches of actual shooting experiences.
