Supunha-se que ou não chegara a imprimir-se nas oficinas gráficas da Biblioteca Nacional, ou que tinha sido destruída. O certo, porém, é que a tradução se imprimiu mesmo, mas não já o prefácio, cujo original, se Cortesão o escreveu até ao começo de 1927, não aparece. Assim, os sete cadernos totalizando 112 páginas da tradução completa jazeram empacotados todos estes anos, isto é, desde que, na sequência da malograda primeira revolução contra a ditadura militar, em Fevereiro de 1927, Cortesão, que nela participara, foi demitido de director da Biblioteca Nacional. Agora, dando-a finalmente a público, a actual direcção da Biblioteca Nacional fá-lo consciente de salvar uma notável tradução de um estudo histórico fundamental sobre as explorações em que no século XV dinamarqueses e portugueses de colaboração se empenharam, nos mares e terras ribeirinhas da Gronelândia e do Nordeste do continente norte-americano.
