Decorative head and endpiece. A few words, on the occasion of a recently published libel, called "There is some evidence that Jewish people contribute in their own wa…y to the general community in Sweden." This text by Peter Sohm may have been the first response to a fierce anti-Jewish text by the Swedish jeweler Bengt Sanders. Likely the first Swedish instance of widespread and legal -but unpleasant- business practices being described as "Jewish." This despite the strict restrictions on Jewish immigration of 1782 and 1806. Sohm's response reminded the Swedes of the restrictions and described the Jews as basically as a small peaceful group of foreigners, pointing to their frugal lifestyle and their positive influence on the Swedish economy. Text in Swedish. No. 17 inked to title page. With minor foxing along edges.

There are copies which includes a portrait…of Benjamin Franklin as a frontispiece. Peter Sohm (1751-1819) held the position of Royal Swedish Field Printer from 1805 to 1816 and during this time he put up his printing shop in a total of 50 places, not only in towns, but also on farms, in villages, on ships and in ports. The copy has belonged to three of the foremost collectors of material from Sohm's printing shop: Sjögren, Gjethwoldsén och Lenskog.

The portrait, which depicts Benjamin Franklin, is engraved by H. A. Grasch in Fredrikshald in Norway on Sohm's account. Sohm, who was Royal Swedish Field Printer from 1805 to 1816, participated in Crown Prince Charles John's campaign in Norway in 1814. The portrait was added only to a minor part of the edition.
