He has accordingly deemed it advisable to issue the work broken up into periods. And he ventures to send forth the portion dealing with the final period before publishing the rest, because it is that which is of more immediate interest to the present generation, dealing as it does with the rise of Evangelicalism, in the Calvinism of Whitefield and the Evangelical Fathers in the Church, and in Lutheranism which found its apostle in John Wesley.
