Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a captivating historical journey into the origins and early years of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.). The author meticulously chronicles the organization's founding, beginning with the dissatisfaction of women of Revolutionary descent being excluded from the Sons of the American Revolution and concluding with the establishment of the D.A.R. The book delves into the personalities and contributions of the key figures involved, most notably the three founders: Miss Eugenia Washington, Miss Mary Desha, and Mrs. Ellen Hardin Walworth, all descended from families deeply rooted in American history. The book also examines the roles of influential figures like Mrs. Benjamin Harrison, the first President General, and Mrs. William D. Cabell, who provided crucial leadership during a pivotal time. Beyond individual biographies, this book explores the broader thematic concerns of the nascent D.A.R. - the importance of patriotic reverence, the preservation of American history, and the expanding role of women in American society. The author effectively illustrates how this organization, born from a desire for greater patriotic inclusion, emerged as a force for social change and historical preservation.
