A scarce, inscribed copy of a history of Captain James Macrae, known as ?the Fortunate Duellist? from his successful participation in a number of those affairs of single combat, on account of his quick temper. The ?Tragedy? of the title stemmed from another duel, against his erstwhile friend Sir George Ramsay, over an altercation Macrae had had with a young footman in Ramsay?s employ. Macrae shot and killed Ramsay, and the scandal led to him fleeing to France, never to return. Library Hub records just two copies, at NLS and BL.…
