This copy contains both the Latin scholarly edition (Carmina Cantabrigiensia, edited by Karolus Strecker) and the parallel German-language edition (Die Cambridger Lieder, herausgegeben von Karl Strecker, mit 1 Tafel) issued the same year by the same publisher, bound together in a single volume. The Cambridge Songs are an 11th-century manuscript collection of medieval Latin lyrics preserved at Cambridge, representing one of the most important sources for secular Latin poetry of the early Middle Ages. These dates correspond precisely to his Oxford residency. Hammond was a major figure in American classical scholarship and Latin studies for over half a century. The purchase record indicates Hammond acquired the volume in December 1926, shortly after publication, had it bound in February 1927, and recorded a second purchase copy in January 1927 ? consistent with scholarly acquisition of a newly issued critical edition. This is a documented working copy acquired by a significant classicist at Oxford within months of the book's publication. Boards are green-gray linen cloth, worn at spine ends and corners with fraying. Fore-edge shows age-toning and waviness with some page damage at fore-edge corners. Text block is toned throughout, consistent with 1926 paper stock. A tape remnant is present on the half-title page. Binding is intact and holding.
