Black textured cloth lettered in gilt on the front cover; cloth slightly worn at the extremities, with a small amount of white paint at the head of the front joint; rear hinge pulled a little, but sound; tears to (mainly the bottom) edges of about 30 leaves, with eight of those tears above a centimetre long now expertly sealed; minor loss to the top edge of one leaf; a few other mild signs of age and use; a very good copy. Very gently read. Page numbers appear to be hand written in fountain pen. Previous owner's neat name and address and two tiny ink droplets to the ffep. Odd finger smudge and light soling to show, otherwise the interior is clean and free of any writing. Last two pages have neatly pulled away just at the staples at the spine but are still firmly attached. Black leatherette boards (hardcover) are lightly bumped and rubbed to extremities, minor shelfwear to show. 1.5cm x 1cm dark stain near the fore-edge of the front board. Bright gilt titles over a blindstamped "label" to the upper front board. Fabulous assortment of colour and B & W illustrations regarding scrolls, panels, air brush design, letter head, book covers, nine new alphabets, etc. etc. The senior Strong founded the Detroit School of Lettering.
