Impulsgeber für die kontinuierliche Weiterentwicklung des technischen Standards im Smart Grid ist dabei das regulierte Strommarktdesign, das durch die Festlegung geeigneter Tarife und rechtlicher Rahmenbedingungen die notwendigen, wirtschaftlich und technisch sinnvollen Innovationsimpulse setzt. Der Strommarkt ist damit der Garant für die weitere Effizienzentwicklung im Smart Grid. - Nach der Darstellung der Grundzüge des Netzausbaus auf allen Spannungsebenen werden die Bedingungen für die Dimensionierung von Betriebsmitteln im Smart Grid im Normal- und im Störungsfall dargestellt. Das Zusammenspiel der Akteure Erzeuger-Verbraucher-Prosumer wird näher erläutert und die dafür notwendige Ausstattung des Smart Grids unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der Kommunikationsschnittstellen dargestellt. Des Weiteren werden die Grundlagen des Energiemarktes vorgestellt, wobei elektrische Energie als Produkt im Online-Handel betrachtet wird. Das Merit-Order-Prinzip wird erläutert und die Bedeutung von Erzeugungsprognosen, die sich aus der regenerativen Erzeugung ergeben, diskutiert. Die aus Prognosefehlern resultierenden Korrekturen im Netzbetrieb (sog. Redispatch) und deren Kosten werden betrachtet. Die Systematik der Bilanzierung von Strom, die durch den Smart-Meter-Rollout begleitet wird, die Rolle der Marktakteure und die Regeln der Marktkommunikation spielen dabei eine entscheidende Rolle. Dies wird anhand von Beispielen detailliert dargestellt.
