Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. 1st Edition. INSCRIBED First Edition Hardcover in Near Fine condition in Near Fine, unclipped Dustjacket under mylar. Inscribed on front free endpaper; ""To Marge,- Miles Lives!- Best Wishes- Greg Davis- 2-17-07." Greg Davis was the eldest son of Miles Davis. He died in 2023 in New York City. At his death, he was known as Abdul-Rahman Ali. He as the son of Miles Davis' first wife, Irene Cawthon Davis-Oliver. "Dark Magus" is a warts-and-all look at the real Miles Davis, as told by his son. It details the enigmatic superstar's Jekyll and Hyde behavior: his swings between sobriety and prodigious drug use, his tender family moments and his destructive selfishness; his search for marital stability and his obsession with young women; his exalted musical genius and his ever-present personal demons. In his 1989 autobiography, Miles summarily dispatches his sons: "My relationship with my sons- which was never what it should have been- hit rock bottom during this time" (a period of heavy cocaine use) "especially with Gregory, who was now calling himself Rahman. He would just cause me all kinds of grief, like getting arrested, getting into accidents, and just generally being a pain in the ass. I know he loved me and really wanted to be like me. He used to try to play trumpet, but he played so bad it was just terrible to listen to, and I would scream at him to stop. He and I were having a lot of arguments, and I know the way I was using drugs wasn't good for him to see. I know I wasn't a proper father, but that just wasn't my thing, never was." A rare artifact from the familial circle of the jazz icon. Inscribed by Author(s).…
