In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. An attractive original American edition of the sentimental ballad When the Organ Played at Twilight, published during the closing years of the Jazz Age. Written by lyricist Raymond Wallace with music by prolific British songwriting team Jimmy Campbell and Reg Connelly, the piece was simult…aneously issued by Campbell Connelly in London and Santly Bros. in New York. The striking Art Deco-influenced cover presents the dramatic interior of a church illuminated by stained-glass windows and a towering pipe organ, creating an evocative atmosphere that perfectly complements the song's nostalgic theme. The interior includes piano/vocal arrangement with ukulele chord diagrams, reflecting the instrument's enormous popularity at the dawn of the 1930s. Condition: Good+. Complete with all four pages present. The folded sheets have cleanly separated at the spine, though every page remains complete and can be easily stored or professionally rejoined if desired. Moderate handling wear, edge and corner creasing, scattered rubbing and light soiling, several small edge tears, and a contemporary pencil ownership name on the upper front cover. Interior music remains clean, bright, and fully legible with no tape repairs or significant staining noted. Small stain in upper-right of cover when viewed at an angle. Original 1929 American edition. Copyright MCMXXIX (1929) by Campbell Connelly & Co., Ltd., with U.S. and Canadian rights assigned to Santly Bros., Inc. No evidence of later reprint markings. The cover illustration is signed by Sydney "Sid" Leff (1901-2005), one of America's most accomplished commercial illustrators of the twentieth century. Leff created hundreds of memorable sheet music covers during the late 1920s and 1930s before moving into magazine illustration and advertising. His original artwork has appeared in museum exhibitions devoted to American illustration, and signed Leff sheet music has become increasingly collectible in its own right. Unlike many romantic portrait covers of the era, this composition employs dramatic architectural perspective, stained-glass windows, and the looming pipe organ with a shadowy organist alone to create an unusually atmospheric and cinematic design, making it one of the more visually distinctive religious-themed covers from his early career, at just 28 years old. Sydney Leff (illustrator).

In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Vintage sheet music for voice, piano, and guitar chords featuring a striking photographic cover of Bing Crosby with an Art Deco-inspired graphic design signed by celebrated commercial illustrator Sydney Leff (1901-2005). Issued during Crosby's meteoric rise as America's leading popula…r vocalist, this publication is both an attractive example of late Tin Pan Alley sheet music and a noteworthy piece of American commercial graphic design. By 1938, Bing Crosby had become one of the most influential entertainers in the United States, reshaping popular singing with his relaxed, intimate vocal style while dominating radio, recordings, and motion pictures. Publishers eagerly promoted songs through Crosby's name and likeness, knowing his endorsement could dramatically increase sales. The publisher, Santly-Joy-Select, was one of New York's active independent Tin Pan Alley firms, producing music that flowed from Broadway and Hollywood into American homes through radios and upright pianos. The beautifully balanced cover was designed by Sydney Leff, whose contribution deserves special attention. Between the 1920s and 1930s, Leff illustrated nearly 2,000 sheet music covers, creating artwork for songs by Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen, Duke Ellington, and many of the era's leading composers. His commercial illustrations helped define the visual identity of American popular music during the golden age of Tin Pan Alley. Decades later, several of his original designs - including the elegant cover for Underneath the Harlem Moon - were exhibited in the Museum of the City of New York's landmark exhibition "New York: Songs of the City," recognizing his work as an important chapter in American graphic design history. This copy remains in Very Good+ condition. The cover is bright and exceptionally well preserved with only light edge wear, mild age toning, and gentle handling consistent with careful storage. The spine remains intact, corners are sound, and the interior pages are clean with no ownership inscriptions, performance markings, or repairs observed. The music is complete and highly presentable. The rear cover retains contemporary publisher advertising, including period songs such as Sweet Leilani, providing additional historical context and helping firmly place the publication within the vibrant musical landscape of late-Depression America. Sydney Leff (illustrator).

In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Ukulele arrangement by W. J. C. Lewis. Original large-format sheet music, complete as issued, featuring photographic inset of orchestra leader Leo F. Reisman. Rear cover advertises 'Sometime' by Gus Kahn and Ted Fiorito. Copyright 1925. A vibrant Roaring Twenties dance-era sheet music… issue celebrating the Charleston craze that swept American popular culture during the mid-1920s. The striking cover features a fashionable flapper in vivid red attire posed against a stylized pastoral backdrop rendered in strong Art Deco-inspired colors and linework. The inclusion of ukulele chord diagrams reflects the instrument's enormous popularity in American homes during the Jazz Age, while the inset portrait of bandleader Leo F. Reisman connects the song directly to contemporary dance orchestra culture and hotel ballroom performance circuits. Jerome H. Remick & Co., one of Tin Pan Alley's leading publishers, produced many enduring standards of the dance-band era, and this issue remains an attractive example of Charleston-themed musical ephemera. Condition: Very Good. Covers retain bright, unfaded color with strong overall eye appeal. Moderate edge wear, corner creasing, and a small chip/loss at the lower left front cover noted but not visually distracting. Light age toning and handling wear throughout. Interior pages clean and complete with secure fold and no detached leaves, tears, or writing beyond a small contemporary pencil notation to the upper and lower front cover. Roy Turk (1892-1934) was a prolific Tin Pan Alley lyricist whose credits include numerous Jazz Age hits and popular standards recorded by major dance orchestras of the 1920s. Composer Lou Handman (1894-1956) was an American pianist and songwriter remembered for both novelty dance tunes and enduring popular ballads, collaborating widely across vaudeville and Broadway circles. Leo F. Reisman (1897-1961), pictured on the cover, was among the leading American dance-band conductors of the interwar period. His sophisticated orchestra became closely associated with hotel ballroom entertainment, radio broadcasting, and stylish society dance music during the height of the Jazz Age. Sydney Leff (1901-2005) was an American commercial illustrator active during the 1920s and early 1930s whose work appeared on numerous Tin Pan Alley sheet music covers during the height of the Jazz Age. His illustrations are especially associated with fashionable flapper imagery, streamlined Art Deco compositions, and vibrant theatrical color palettes designed to attract attention in music-store displays and department-store windows. Working during a transformative period in American graphic design, Leff helped move sheet music illustration away from Victorian ornamental traditions toward the cleaner, modern visual language that would come to define late-1920s commercial art and advertising. Today, surviving examples of his signed covers are appreciated both as musical ephemera and as representative works of early American Art Deco illustration. Sydney Leff (illustrator).

In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. Original large-format sheet music edition featuring a striking Jazz Age cover illustration by noted commercial artist Sydney Leff (1901-2005), one of the most prolific and influential American sheet-music illustrators of the 1920s. Printed in bold blue, gray, and orange tones, the cov…er depicts a melancholy fireside interior scene with inset publicity photograph of vaudeville performers Lewis and Smith. This issue also includes a ukulele arrangement by May Singhi Breen ('The Queen of the Ukulele'), reflecting the immense popularity of fretted-instrument accompaniment during the height of the 1920s ukulele craze. Rear cover advertises the Irving Berlin title Yearning (Just for You) by Benny Davis and Joe Burke. Condition: Very Good. Light age toning and moderate handling wear consistent with use and age. Mild edge wear, several tiny edge tears, and small corner creases; no major losses or detached leaves. Interior music pages remain clean and fully legible with strong paper integrity and no substantial staining or notation. Cover colors remain bright and attractive, especially uncommon for a 1924 popular-music issue printed on inexpensive stock. Presumed first edition / early commercial printing, 1924. Copyright statement on interior music page reads 'MCMXXIV by Irving Berlin, Inc., 1607 B'way, N.Y.' Original Irving Berlin imprint, period advertising, and the contemporary May Singhi Breen ukulele arrangement are all consistent with a first-year commercial issue intended for home performance and phonograph-era sales. Sydney Leff became one of the defining visual stylists of Tin Pan Alley publishing during the Jazz Age, producing hundreds of highly recognizable covers characterized by elegant elongated figures, theatrical interiors, and bold flat-color lithographic design. His work for Irving Berlin and related New York publishers remains especially sought after by collectors of American commercial illustration and music ephemera. Benny Davis, Joe Burke, and Mark Fisher were major contributors to interwar American popular music. Joe Burke later composed enduring standards including Rambling Rose and Moon Over Miami, while Irving Berlin's publishing house represented one of the dominant forces in Tin Pan Alley music production during the 1920s. Sydney Leff (illustrator).

In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Very Good. Popular Jazz Age novelty and dance-era standard issued in ukulele arrangement form, with ukulele transcription by May Singhi Breen, celebrated as 'The Queen of the Ukulele.' Cover features a stylish Art Deco-influenced flapper illustration with inset portrait of vocalist Francis Williams of Willia…ms and Van Nessi. Rear cover advertises the contemporary Irving Berlin publication Ukulele Lady by Gus Kahn and Richard A. Whiting, another landmark of the 1920s ukulele craze. This example remains in Very Good condition overall. Light rubbing and age toning to covers, with mild corner wear and a few small edge stresses typical of 1920s sheet music. Interior pages remain clean and supple with no detached leaves or loss to notation. The cover illustration retains strong contrast and unusually vivid orange coloration, enhancing display appeal. A faint contemporary pencil notation appears near the lower left margin of the front cover, adding period character without materially detracting from presentation. First published in 1925, Yes Sir! That's My Baby became one of the defining popular songs of the Jazz Age and was widely recorded by dance bands, vaudeville performers, and later swing and early jazz revival artists. The present ukulele-arranged edition reflects the enormous national popularity of the instrument during the mid-1920s, when publishers routinely issued specialized 'uke' arrangements for amateur musicians and college performers. Copies specifically crediting May Singhi Breen are especially desirable, as her arrangements and advocacy helped legitimize and standardize the ukulele in American popular music publishing. Sydney Leff (1901-2005) was one of the most prolific and influential commercial illustrators of the 1920s, whose refined Jazz Age covers became closely associated with the vibrant, fashionable sheet music design of the era. Leff began his career as a commercial artist in high school and quickly became a go-to illustrator for Tin Pan Alley publishers. Known for his efficiency, he often produced three to four cover designs each day, ultimately creating over 2,000 unique illustrations. His work blended elegance, playfulness, and the spirit of the Jazz Age, capturing the energy and style of the 1920s through stylized figures, decorative borders, and clever typography. May Singhi Breen (1891-1970), often promoted as 'The Queen of the Ukulele,' was among the most influential figures in the American ukulele movement of the 1920s and 1930s. Born in New York City, she became a nationally recognized performer, arranger, recording artist, and radio personality. Breen successfully campaigned for music publishers to recognize the ukulele as a legitimate instrument in published arrangements, and her instructional methods and transcriptions introduced countless Americans to popular music performance during the Jazz Age. Lyricist Gus Kahn (1886-1941) was one of Tin Pan Alley's most successful songwriters, producing enduring standards including Makin' Whoopee, Dream a Little Dream of Me, and It Had to Be You. Composer Walter Donaldson (1893-1947) was likewise among the era's premier melodists, responsible for classics such as My Blue Heaven, Love Me or Leave Me, and Carolina in the Morning. Together, Kahn and Donaldson helped define the sophisticated yet accessible sound of 1920s American popular song. Sydney Leff (illustrator).
