Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book publishes the results of a set of astronomical observations made at the Sydney Observatory. The observations include measurements of stars' positions and movement over time, and were made using new and innovative methods developed by the author. The results of these observations are presented in the form of a catalog of 1068 stars, providing valuable data for astronomers and researchers. The catalog includes information on each star's position, proper motion, and other relevant details. The book also discusses the methods used to make the observations and the accuracy of the results. Overall, this book makes a significant contribution to the field of astronomy by providing a wealth of new data on the positions and movements of stars in the southern sky. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. …

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book records and analyzes southern double stars observed at the Sydney Observatory using the 7-inch refractor by Merz, and, since 1874, the 11-inch refractor by Schroder. The observations remeasure the double stars in Sir John Herschel's Cape list between 34o south and the pole. The author, H. C. Russell, also includes new double stars found in the same field of view as Herschel's stars, and interesting objects, including those that had been found in motion or had shown signs of change since Herschel's observations. The book is an important contribution to the field of astronomy, as it provides new measurements of known double stars and includes a significant number of new discoveries. Russell's observations have been used by astronomers for over a century to study the motion and evolution of double stars. Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the history of the oldest scientific institution in Australiaâ"the Sydney Observatoryâ"through its original observing journal and publications that spanned from 1877 to 1879. These groundbreaking years laid the groundwork for astronomy in the country and the observations recorded within were vital to shaping the field. The author uses these journals to provide a detailed account of the instruments and techniques used by astronomers of the time, highlighting the challenges they faced and the scientific advancements they made. The author provides context and insights into the history of astronomy, explaining the importance of stars like Mars and Jupiter, and the role of the observatory in understanding their positions. Through the lens of the observatory's early years, the book also examines the broader scientific and cultural landscape of 19th-century Australia. It explores the role of the observatory in shaping public understanding of astronomy and its contributions to the development of the continent's scientific community. The author concludes by emphasizing the significance of the observatory's early observations, which enabled astronomers to better understand the southern skies and contribute to the global advancement of astronomy.
