They are a combination of game recipes and store bought items cooked and prepared as the Osage Indians had done for many years. I counted 75 recipes and there is also discussion about how to prepare wild game, including moose, bear, raccoon, elk and others. A very unique cookbook.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. First edition? (See below.) Octavo. [48]pp. Stapled wrappers three-hole punched and bound into pictorial particle board with red plastic rings. Front cover a bit rubbed and unprinted lower board modestly stained, wrappers evenly toned, bright and very good or better. A collection of traditional recipes from the Osage Nation. The book is dedicated to the memory of Principal Osage Chief Fred Lookout and illustrated with a halftone portrait of him, as well as two portraits of young Frankie McClainpresumably the publisher's sonin traditional Osage dress. Coauthor Sylvester J. Tinker would later serve as Chief of the Osage tribe from 1970 to 1982. (N.B. *OCLC* has one entry with two holdings that gives a date of "c1948" and notes that, while it is the same height, contains "13 leaves"; we are unsure if this is a clerical error or an extremely uncommon first edition.).
