Clapham's bookplate is affixed to front pastedown, with a subsequent owner's ex libris, dated 1951, in ink below. Howgrave-Graham was assistant keeper of the Muniments at Westminster Abbey from 1945-59 and was responsible for extensive restoration work on wooden funeral effigies damaged during the war; his ashes are buried there.
