The Mishmis are known all over the state for their skills in weaving and handicrafts. Besides their expertise in weaving and handicrafts the expertise in weaving and handicrafts the community has also a rich tradition of festivals and rituals. Traditionally an animistic people with beliefs in various Gods and Goddesses and spirits both benevolent and malevolent they propitiate them frequently in their rituals and festivals. This rich cultural and religious heritage has therefore laid a right foundation for mushrooming of innumerable myths among the community. Mishmi Folk Tales of Lohit Valley a collection of 103 stories of the Kaman and the Tarwah Mishmis who live in Lohit district is the outcome of four years of persistent research work by the author. Besides the anthology of the tales an exhaustive illustration portraying different facets of the community's socio cultural life along with a list of keywords provides a right context to this rare book. 300 pp.

Hardcover. Zustand: New. The book discusses and debates theoretical, conceptual, and empirical issues that have arisen from studies of the tribals of Northeast India, and by extension, those of India in general. It sheds new light on tribal societies and aimed to produce multidimensional outcomes and prospects for future academic research on various issues concerning tribes of this region. It allowed us to see them in the contexts of socio-political structure, as well as to gain an understanding of how far they have retained or changed their identity and socio-cultural system. This collection is a sincere attempt to critically examine the conceptual process of tribal formation, which is fraught with a cross-current of ideas. It is expected to underscore the emerging realities, issues, and challenges that tribes face in various contexts in contemporary Northeast India. The book will be of interest to researchers and students of anthropology, sociology, political science, economics, tribal studies, social work, and other related fields of study in addition to tribal activists and policymakers.
