OX-5 powered Travel Airs, Birds, Wacos, Commandaires, Krieder-Reisners, American Eagles, etc. are still around in some numbers. Why then was there a need for this booklet? Becoming famous as the power plant of the famous Curtis JN4 series of WW I the Curtis OX-5 engine along with the OXX, OX-2 and the air cooled Tank version was the power plant of choice for a bewildering array of flying machines starting after WWI and through 1930. This booklet only scratches the surface of this largely forgotten part of the "Golden Age" of aviation. Many were designs put together to utilize the cheap and plentiful WW I surplus of OX-5. Most were based on the three place, open cockpit biplane concept.
