One of his best know legacies is La Cuesta Encantada, or Hearst Castle, the product of his collaboration with Julia Morgan, his architect. The author of this book tells the human side of this legacy and also provides a much-needed overview of the history of the San Simeon area. This is a fine piece of local history writing. especially for anyone who is curious about the man, the land, and the castle. Coffman was a guide at Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument from 1971 to 1983 he was influential for the founding of the Friends of Hearst Castle, a non-porofit that is affiliated with the Monument.
