In den Warenkorb8vo. [6], 371, [1] pp. Red pictorial publisher's cloth, cover art illustration of soldiers armed with rifles & bayonets (slight shelfwear, offset toning at gutter margin from binding glue, inner hinge slightly starting), w/ d.j. cover art of Tex O'Reilly fighting in the Philippine Insurrection (chipping, minor loss at lower part of spine, closed tears, edgewear, minor creasing), still VG/Fair copy. First edition, stated, of this rousing memoir of the Texas-born US Army veteran, and mercenary soldier, who enlisted in the Spanish-American War at 17, fought in Cuba, in the Philippines during the Philippine Insurrection; fought the Chinese during the Boxer Rebellion, and was recruited after mustering out in Shanghai to fight with a protection unit for the Emperor of Korea. After being paid off by the Japanese, he was an advisor to Sun Yat Sen; fought in the Venezuelan Matos' Rebellion; Honduras and Nicaragua, became a Texas journalist; fought under Madero during the Mexican Revolution, and and more. By 1919 he became a silent film screenwriter and actor, and eventually met up with Lowell Thomas after he covered for him during a speaking engagement due to a delayed train. Although much of the events have been contested, especially his later involvement with the Spanish Foreign Legion, the story breezes, and original editions have become quite scarce.
