This single volume edition is illustrated with 15 copperplate engravings which are all present as per the plate index, though the frontispiece has been bound in at page 156. Condition: Whilst the text block remains in good condition with secure binding and clean pages (bar some age-toning), both boards and the backstrip are detached. The front endpaper is also detached. Some rubbing to the backstrip, the boards in good order. The plate index requires fifteen plates (frontis plus 14), all 14 are in the correct place, as mentioned the frontis is bound in at p156, and has a small marginal tear. The plates are in good order but with some light spotted and blotchy foxing.…

Leather is marked and rubbed and split over all joints - covers are only held by cords and joints are fragile. Corners are bumped and well-scuffed. Title pages and frontis's are a little ragged, smudge marked and vol II frontis is tipped onto inside of front cover. Both front end-papers are missing, both rear end-papers are creased. Internal binding is sound, printer/publisher binding error with page 107/108 in Volume I printed back to front. Light foxing to pages facing plates but pages are otherwise clean and bright. There is minor worm damage on the lower margins of some pages in Volume II. Sixty-seven of the seventy plates described in the "Directions for Placing the Plates" are present, but not all in the described place, one being in the wrong volume. Two plates are fold out - the Temple of Solomon plate has significant creasing. Plates include a number of maps including one fold-out map ." The missing plate are Jacob, Herod and Pilate.
