Der Weg des 17-jahrigen Zahlmeister-Hilfssekretars der Royal-Navy fuhrt von Scapa Flow, wo er auf eine letzte grosse Seeschlacht der Kaiserlichen Marine hoffte, uber den Waffenstillstand mit dem Osmanischen Reich in Konstantinopel in das vom Russischen Burgerkrieg erschutterte Sewastopol, das Briten und Franzosen auf-grund der anruckenden Roten Armee bald verlassen mussten. Anstatt wie gehofft nach England zuruckkehren zu konnen, wurde Thornhill uberraschend uber Geor-gien nach Baku/Aserbeidschan abkommandiert. Hier hatte die Royal Navy auf dem Kaspischen Meer als Drehscheibe Zentralasiens die British Caspian Naval Force aufgebaut. - Eine spannende Story!
