The Seventh Somersets were a typical British line battalion of a typical county infantry regiment in the Second World War. What that meant in practice is described by the military historian and soldier Brigadier H. This battalion formed part of 43rd Wessex Division in NW Europe. It fought at Normandy , Through Belgium and into the Netherlands where it took part in the fighting around Nijmegen Bridge and Elst opposite Arnhem.
