Eric Fraser (illustrator). A near-fine copy of the 1979 Folio Society edition (they had first issued the book in 1976) with illustrations by Eric Fraser and a cover design by Jeff Clements. Slipcase is a little browned at the edges but the book is unmarked - in fact it has never been read, as I bought it myself at the time when I had another 'reading' copy. Map endpapers and 21 illustrations by Fraser.

The only noticeable flaw is a small stain to the fore edge of the pages of volume 2 - The Two Towers - that does not penetrate. The interior is clean and crisp with creamy white pages. A very good or better set. A heavy, multi-volume set that will require additional postage.

The spines have wear, a few scuffs, and a bump, the cloth has some very faint foxing spots, a small mark to the front of The Fellowship, otherwise good covers, square, secure bindings, bright pages, no inscriptions, a few pages with a crease to the corner in The Fellowship, books with a slightly musty odour. The slipcase is tidy, just a few scuffs to the bottom edge and a scratch to the top, a little wear to the corners. Good condition.

Beautifully quarter bound in Wassa goatskin leather and fine hand woven Indian silk. Slipcase also bound in Wassa goatskin leather and with gilt lettering and decorative design by John Andrew to the front of the slipcase and spine of the book. The book has top edge gilt and a silk page ribbon. There are maps for endpapers, with Thror's map at the front and a map of Wilderland at the back, plus several intricate illustrations by Eric Fraser. Bound by Smith Settle of Otley, Yorks. A stunning book in near fine condition. There are some very minor imperfections to the Indian silk sides, simply as a result of it being hand woven.
