An Tóstal, which took place during the period 5th to 26th April, 1953 was the first professional effort by an Irish Government Agency to tap into the vast potential of the Irish Diaspora. It is no coincidence to note the introductory notes on the brochure were written by Sean Leamass, the Minister for Industry and Commerce. This was a significant development in 1953 and even more so when viewed against similar tourist initiatives in the past two years.
