Illustrated by two of the then finest illustrators Arthur Szyk (Andersen) and Fritz Kredel ( Grimm) both German emigrés fleeing Hitler. The book is externally fair to good with some finger soil to the covers and some light edge rubbing, internally very good with good hinges, sound text block, clean pages, name written at top of front free endpaper, no other markings. The slipcase has heavy shelf rubbing, especially to the extremities, structurally sound. Hard Cover. Fair/Fair Slipcase. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

The book is very good with minor rubbing to the spine ends, good hinges, firm text block, very clean pages with no names or other markings. The mylar protected dustjacket is not priceclipped [250250] and is in generally good condition with overall shelf scuffing mainly to the rear panel, very minor residue from removal of a department store price sticker at lower left corner of front panel, a couple of closed tears to edges of rear panel, edge rubbing, no chips. G Wells "The War of the Worlds", published only a few months after Well's Science Fiction classic, this humorous novel with the invasion of the Earth by Women from Venus figured in Locke Spectrum of fantasy & Bleiler Checklist of fantastic Literature the book is bound in the original pictorial wrappers, 140pp, plus publishers averts, the front cover is chipped with loss with some splits and creases, with a small booksellers label to top edge, the spine has an old tape repair (see pictures) internally old handwritten notes to half title page which could easily be erased if desired, light browning to page edges else contents in good condition.

Outer edges of text block also show some slight foxing. Boards show very subtle bowing. In general, a very nice copy. A parody of Wells' "War of the World" (1898) in which the female inhabitants of Venus invade the earth. Translated from the Artesian of H. G. Pozzuoli by Graves and Lucas.
