Major Pine-Coffin, who was an English army officer and colonial administrator who served as Governor of St. Helena from 1821 to 23, translated Stutterheimâs work into English in 1806. Pine-Coffin bemoaned the fact that he could not find a suitable map of the area for his edition, so for this N&MP edition we have added a useful map of the battle from Sir Archibald Alisonâs Atlas.The notes âby a French officerâ are ascribed to Napoleon.At the battle Napoleon employed a strategic deception, feigning weakness to lure the enemy into a vulnerable position. Despite being outnumbered, Napoleonâs forces decisively defeated the allied army, inflicting significant casualties and losses.
