Hardcover. Zustand: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Ketchum, Richard M., editor. What is communism? / introduction by Dr. Grayson Kirk ; art director Will Anderson ; picture editor Ruth Traurig. First edition. New York: E. P. Dutton & Co. Inc., 1955. Hardback, Good, no dustjacket. Illustrated cloth boards, rubbed to surfaces, tanned to spine, bumped to corners with small marks and blemishes. Binding firm. Endpapers illustrated with maps. Small dent to fore-edge of endpapers. 192pp., b/w photographs and illustrations. Contents clean and bright. "As Grayson Kirk, president of Columbia University, says in his gracious introduction to the books: "Through every possible means men must be given the truth about the nature, the principles and achievements of our society, and they must be given the plain unvarnished truth about what Communist imperialism means to the world." We believe in the truth and we believe that it is mightier than the word. Were our own (and the author's) objectives somewhat less high one might feel more satisfied with the book. Unfortunately, however, Mr. Ketchum falls somewhat short of the splendid goal which he sets out to reach. Unfortunately, he has tended to mix all the negative aspects of the last thirty-eight years in the Soviet Union into one rough sketch. There is no doubt that the negative features are impressive. But so would the case be in some other countries, including our own, were only the negative side presented" (NYT review). RightWayUp Books aims to provide accurate and detailed descriptions.
