"The story of Baltusrol is more than a history of a golf club. It is an integral part of the larger story of the evolution of the greatest game of all. In 1895, during the infancy of golf in America, New York socialite Louis Keller and three other enthusiastic gentlemen founded the club. They didn't know much about golf, but Baltusrol quickly became one of the most celebrated clubs in the world. Then in 1901 the six-year-old United States Golf Association (USGA) selected Baltusrol to host the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship. A remarkable tradition of hosting national championships had begun. In nine of ten decades of the 20th century, Baltusrol has been the site of at least one national championship. Baltusrol is one of the few clubs that can boast that virtually all of the gretest players of the game have walked its fairways from Harry Vardon and Bobby Jones to Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus.
