Merit is the intrument for achieving the Rupakāya, and wisdom, for the Dharmakāya. Thus, we categorize all practices of Buddhism into two: the practice of accumulating merit (through prayers, offering, practice of generosity, etc. and all meditations except the meditation on sunyata); and the practice of accumulating wisdom (i.e. realization of the Ultimate Truth).
