Zwei einheitlich über fünf Bünde gebundene Lederbände der Zeit mit je zwei farbigen Rückenschildern und Rückenblindprägung. Beide Kapitale an beiden Bänden lädiert, die Gelenke schwach, die Deckel berieben, innen papierbedingt mal mehr, mal weniger gebräunt. Mischauflage der ersten beiden Bände von dreien. 1704, 1705 und 1706 erstmals erschienen. Provenienz: Titelblatt des ersten Bandes verso handschriftlich: "Paulus Markovich", ein Vorbesitzer dort ausgeschnitten, Fehlstelle alt hinterlegt. Auf dem hinteren Innendeckel kopfstehend gestempelt: "Sammlung Margret Hardix-Hardegg Wien, III., Beatrixg. 19 a/ 10 Fernruf B 54-4-15.", dieser Stempel auch auf dem vorderen Innendeckel des zweiten Bandes. Auf dem fliegenden Vorsatz recto des zweiten Bandes handschriftlich "P. M. Anno 1760", wie auch Monogramm "PM" und Motto: "Victrix Fortuna[e] Sapientia" (= Weisheit ist der Sieger des Glücks/ Sieger über das Schicksal ist die Weisheit, nach Juvenal). Die Adresse dieser für uns nicht nachweisbaren "Sammlung" ist zumindest lt. "Wien Geschichte Wiki" (online) eine geschichtsträchtige: "Nummer 19-19a (Rechte Bahngasse 6): Ursprünglich Palffysches Haus im Hof (demoliert 1904), später "Zauberschloss" und zuletzt "Fürstenhof" genannt, vor dem sich die zweite Schleuse des Wiener Neustädter Kanals (mit dem Kanal-Schleusenzieher-Haus) befand. Im alten Haus Nummer 19 wohnte 1826-1829 Adalbert Stifter. Das Gasthaus "Zum Fürstenhof" war ein stark frequentiertes Tanzlokal, in dem sich am 24. Der Frontispiz des zweiten Bandes der einen diverse Bücher kompilierenden Gelehrten in seiner Bibliothek zeigt, ist mit Descartes bei Ovid ("Tristia" III, 4, 25) gefundenem Lebensmotto paraphrasierend überschrieben: "Qui bene latuit, bene vixit" (= Glücklich lebte, wer sich gut verborgen hielt). Ab Seite 873 wird die wichtige Frage geklärt "Ob man noch Einhörner habe". Auch "ob denn die Teutschen so versoffene Leute seyn", wer die "Buchdruckerey" erfunden habe, oder "Was es mit dem beruffenen Zauberer Joh. Fausten vor eine Beschaffenheit habe", oder "Ob es wahr sey daß An. 1284. zu Hameln ein Ratten-Fänger so viel Kinder weggeführet habe?" Im zweiten Band geht es mehr um staatspolitische und kirchenrechtliche Fragen. Klebezettel auf Rücken des ersten Bandes "34a" und "99", bzw. Bra…ndspur, Gbrsp. - Uhse (1677 - 1730), war einer jener, im ausgehenden siebzehnten und beginnenden achtzehnten Jahrhundert so häufig vorkommenden, Vielschreiber, deren reiche schriftstellerische Production im umgekehrten Verhältnisse zum litterarischen Werthe des Geleisteten stand. Er studierte seit 1695 an der Universität in Leipzig, wo er die Vorlesungen von Carpzov, Olearius, Günther, Mencke u. A. hörte, und wurde 1698 zum Magister der Philosophie promovirt. Am 3. Juni 1711 trat er sein Amt als Rector des Merseburger Domgymnasiums an, nachdem er vorher eine Berufung an das Rectorat in Thorn abgelehnt hatte. Hier lebte er in eifrigster Hingabe an seinen Beruf und widerstand selbst der Versuchung Professor an der Universität Leipzig zu werden. (Zitat).
