Three bogus accounts of travels in America: an Indian captivity, a 1787 overland account, and a ship's voyage. Introduction by Jim Dowd, who has signed this copy on p.10. These appear to be variants of the same tale, and… the pseudonymous DeCalves may be Van Delure who may be Van Leason. All the earlier texts of these suspenseful trips are scarce, with no known library having copies of all three texts. [ See Howes USIANA]. If true, this 1780 cross-country journey would have preceded Lewis & Clark by nearly twenty years.
