" Patchen was not a Beat poet; he was a brave and generous lyric artist." - those are the words of a Scrimhaw editor. Veres who teaches art history in San Francisco uses approx. 25 of Patchen's vivid, naive, pointed, drawings plus an interview w/ Miriam Patchen (1974) to convey the complex known as Patchen. [ Patchen was a pun in a paint-box.] The book is 95 pages in length and the colour plates are intense. Book opens with a b/w section on influences and poetic ideas and finishes with a 5 page biography/bibliography. Cond: This is an EX-LIB and has the worst, of ALL that means incl. rubbing,soiling and scuffing. Except that this is a SIG. book I wouldn't offer it. YOU be the judge! Other than the lib. stuff its quite decent- e.g. tight in its binding. A quote from `Orange Bears' on p. 9 - ".What did he know about / Orange bears with their coats all stunk up with soft coal / And the National Guard coming over / From Wheeling to stand." Size: 8vo.
