This is "The Mirror of Conrad" a biography and study of the works of the great Polish / English novelist Joseph Conrad, published in 1955 by T. Werner Laurie. This is the hardcover Second Printing, complete with dust-jacket. The book is bound in red, paper-covered boards, which were given a surface texture to look like cloth. The book is illustrated from photographs ; of interest are the two photographs, one of Conrad's father, Apollo Naleez Korzeniowski; and the other of his mother, Evelina Korzeniowski, née Bobrowska. Excerpted from the jacket write-up : "For E. H. Visiak the mirror of Conrad is that long row of tales and novels which are so astonishing a legacy from the first quarter of this century. BINDING -- Solid INTERIOR -- The end-papers have toning and foxing (offset toning on the front and rear free end-paper); the most noticeable imperfection to the interior is the presence of a good deal of foxing to the paper, quite noticeable on the title page, front material, and the first few leaves, and diminishing til there seems to be none after the last plate illustration (facing page 48). (The prominent foxing is the reason for the condition grade.) The publisher affixed a label (Printed in Great Britain) to the copyright page which has caused toning on the title page; Else the interior is clean and presentable.
