Aus der Bibliothek von Prof. Wolfgang Haase, langjährigem Herausgeber der ANRW und des International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - Lichtschatten und minimale Anschmutzung auf vorderem Einband, Bleistiftanmerkung auf Titelblatt, sonst sehr gut und sauber. - Bekanntlich hat Petrus Elmsley zum ersten Mal, im Jahre 1820, den Laurentianus 32,9 für eine Ausgabe des Oedipus Coloneus 1823 collationiert. Seine Vorgänger benutzten nebst Aldina und luntina, die hauptsächlich auf Venetus 467 XV Jahrh. gebaut waren, den Parisinus 2712 XIII Jahrh. (A) und den Text des Demetrius Triclinius ± 1300 (T). Der Laurentianus aus der ersten Hälfte des 11en Jahrh., seit 1423 in Italien, war noch im 12en, I3en und 14en Jahrhundert geändert und annotiert worden; in den Trachiniai geschah dies eben noch im 15en und 16en Jahrhundert. Ihm fehlten das [genos Sophokleoys], die Hypothesis des Aias, die Hypothesis der Trachiniai. Statt der letzten gab man ihm ein Exzerpt aus ps. Apollod. Bibl. II 148 160, das dem heutigen Texte des Apollodor zwar ähnlich aber nicht gleich ist. Auch die Hypothesis der Elektra bot A in besserem Texte, vollständiger. Seit 1847 stand die Superiorität des Laurentianers fest. Cobet in seiner Antrittsrede hatte die Worte (S. 27): reperti sunt nonnullorum scriptorum Codices archetypi, ex quibus reliqui omnes, qui ubique feruntur, sunt propagati; nec vana spe auguramur fore ut aliquando aut unus aut perpauci Codices MSS. unicuique scriptori omne lectionis et emendationis funda-mentum sint suppeditaturi Seite 103 näher erklärt: Satis mihi constat Aeschyli et Sophoclis fabulas, quas habemus, in unico codice, qui nunc in Laurentiana Bibliotheca servatur, ad nos pervenisse: ex quo vetustissimo libro. . . profluxit quidquid codicum MSS. ubique invenitur. Schon 1832 hatte Wilhelm Dindorf sich Elmsley angeschlossen in der Wertschätzung dieser Handschrift. Cobet kam zu einer Ueberschätz-ung vielleicht nicht ohne zu wissen, dass auch Bakes Freund Burges (f 1864) derselben Meinung zugetan war (F. W. Hall, Companion to classical Texts S. 271). Dübners Collation des L, 1861 veröffentlicht, füllte die Cobetsche Untersuchungen aus und gaben dieser desultorischen Arbeit noch mehr Autorität. Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 40.

Nach O. F. Kleine's verdienstvoller Sammlung im Jahre 1828 blieb es bei der Ausgabe Bergks von 1882. Welch eine Überraschung brachte deshalb das schöne Buch Umberto Mancuso's La Lirica classica greca in Sicilia e nella Magna Grecia, Pisa 1912: mit Fleisz und Liebe versenkte sich der italienische Gelehrte in mehrere Partien der dichterischen Hinterlassenschaft. Auch eröffnete er neue Aussichten und hob vieles Zerstreute hervor. Aber dennoch blieb manches bei Seite und tat eine gänzliche Revision der Fragmente Not. Wir haben versucht eine solche zu geben. Nicht in dithyrambi- scher Sprache den "groszen Dichter" zu verherrlichen war unser Zweck. Dafür ist uns zu viel unbekannt. Dasz aber aus den frag- mentarischen Resten ein lebendiges Bild vom Träger des Namens Stesichoros erblühe denn wir glauben an einen Himeräer des siebenten und sechsten Jahrhunderts ist heiszer Wunsch. Die einschlägige Literatur ist gebührlich berücksichtigt wor den: hierbei half uns Mancuso's Literaturverzeichnis und Sitzlers Besprechung des Stesichoros in Bursians Jahresbericht 1919. Nur weniger Schriften konnte ich hier nicht habhaft werden, z. B. Bascouls, La chaste Sappho de Lesbos et Stésichore, Paris 1913. Mögen glückliche Funde und die vereinte Arbeit der Phi lologen diese Ausgabe bereichern und verbessern. Für Berichti- gungen wird der Verfasser herzlich dankbar sein.
