Original dj in new mylar shows color loss in rear gutter area, repaired half inch loss at spine ends and corresponding light fade marks on cloth, plus a repaired 1" x 2" chip at gutter/top edge of rear panel but book still displays well with wrap-around color hunt scene art. Sir William Beach Thomas has written a book that will be enjoyed as much by the regular hunting fraternity as by armchair enthusiasts who love to browse over the page of Peter Beckford and Surtees. That it is a work of literature goes without saying, at the same time it embraces the subject perhaps more comprehensively than has yet been attempted, and provides an epitome of the sport in every English region. The book is divided into two sections: The first deals with the subject in general and in history, and shows its place in English life; The second reviews the chief hunting grounds in detail, with accounts of famous packs and the sports shown in their several countries. The volume is well illustrated depicting every aspect of English hunting, and also scenery, while a series of 10 plates in color reproduces the work of great sporting artists such as Alken, Wolstenholme, and Ferneley.
