Federführend beteiligt waren geistliche Assistenten des Hitlerkrieges aus beiden Konfessionen. Die Militärpfarrer sind bis heute Beamte und dem Bundesministerium für das Militärressort zugeordnet, das sie aus Steuergeldern auch besoldet. Der staatskirchliche Charakter dieses Komplexes liegt offen zutage.Die Kirchen in der DDR blieben hingegen staatsfern und nahmen später einen entschiedenen Friedens-Standort ein, der sie allein an Jesus von Nazareth band. Ihre Seelsorge für Wehrpflichtige, Bausoldaten und Verweigerer vollzog sich unabhängig, als rein kirchliche Aufgabe. Nach der staatlichen Vereinigung wurden die Erfahrungsschätze der 'DDR-Christenheit' ignoriert.
