Book is tight, square, relatively sharp-cornered and free of markings and flaws inside and out, other than the SIGNATURE of the illustrator on the half-title page, and a slightly faded spine. Rear board also has a strip of fading to top. Fantastic illustrations by Gorelick, including Endpapers in Green with serpent and jungle and a frontispiece of Gauchos. Alas, no DJ. Gorelick was a Russian-born American theatrical set designer, Gorelik (1899-1990) was best known for his scenic designs for such productions as "Golden Boy," "Tortilla Flat," and "All My Sons." He adapted Swiss playwright Max Frisch's "The Firebugs." He also designed costumes, was a lighting director, and, later in life, a teacher of theatre. Authors of the tales include: Roberto J. Payro, Leopoldo Lugones, Lucio V. Lopez, Domingo F. Sarmiento, Ricardo Guiraldes, and Horacio Quiroga.
