Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book is a humorous play set in a small German village, in which characters speak broadly in regional dialect. Despite the villagers' provincial airs, they're as prone to matters of the heart and social status as the inhabitants of grand European courts. The central focus of the plot is a lottery that sends a poor, simple barber on a wild goose chase to a distant, wealthy relative. While there, he's feted as a long-lost baron. The author deftly employs this premise to skewer the foibles of the newly rich and remind readers that social climbing doesn't change one's essential nature. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. …

Leder. S.
