Cloth. Zustand: Near Fine. Unusually bright, handsome copy of this work of Swedish genre art, with each painting telling a story that epitomizes an aspect of Swedish life and culture at the time. Folio, 38.5 by 26 cm. 17 double paged chromolithographic color plates, with long descriptions of each provided on two folding sheets following the particular plate. The descriptions are in given in Swedish, French, German and English, with a large fold-out page containing three columns given over to a description in one of the languages. Subjects include timber-floating, offerings in a country church, hay-making, a wedding dance, flax-dressing, bear hunting, home weaving, grindstone making, young militia men, a servant's fair, etc. Wallander (1821-1888) was also known for portrait and historical paintings. He spent a substantial part of his career as a member of the Swedish art colony based in the German city, Düsseldorf, but he did end in career back in Stockholm. Light wear to the binding.
