The exhibition includes notable rediscoveries, such as Tintoretto's Martyrdom of St Lawrence and Veronese's Mars restrained by Peace and Love.The Tintoretto work, mentioned in historical sources, was deemed too modern for its original commission at a family altar in S. Francesco della Vigna, Venice, eventually being replaced by a less bold interpretation by Gerolamo da Santacroce. Equally significant is the Veronese piece, which portrays a captivating secular subject and has yet to receive scholarly attention from Prof Pignatti. Additionally, the exhibition features Jacopo de' Barbari's Salvator Mundi, a Venetian panel that links the artistic legacies of Antonello da Messina, Alvise Vivarini, and Albrecht Dürer, further revealing the artist's role in this dynamic artistic context; it is believed that this work may have been painted in Germany.The exhibition also includes three altarpieces, which have been traced back to their original churches?an unusual achievement for sixteenth-century works.
