Von 1872 bis 1876 Assistent Friedreichs, habilitierte er sich 1872 an seiner Alma mater für innere Medizin (1876 a. o. Professor) und übernahm 1886 als o. Professor die Medizinische Klinik in Dorpat, mußte jedoch schon 1887 wegen Kehlkopftuberkulose seine Lehrtätigkeit aufgeben.
